Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

Peel the apples, remove the cores and cut into 2 cm cubes. In a bowl, toss with lemon juice, brown sugar and cinnamon.

  3. 3

Roughly chop the cooked chestnuts and add to the apples. Mix together.

  4. 4

Prepare the crumble topping: in a bowl, mix the flour, ground hazelnuts, sugar and a pinch of salt. Add the cold butter cut into small cubes.

  5. 5

Rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until you get a sandy texture with irregular lumps.

  6. 6

Butter a gratin dish. Spread the apple and chestnut mixture at the bottom.

  7. 7

Crumble the topping evenly over the fruit.

  8. 8

Bake for 30 minutes until the crumble is golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Additional information

Crumble is the ultimate comfort dessert, and this autumn version is its finest expression. The soft apples, lightly caramelised with cinnamon, pair perfectly with chestnuts that bring their unique taste and slightly floury texture.

The crumble topping, enriched with ground hazelnuts, forms a golden, crispy crust that contrasts wonderfully with the melting fruit filling. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of cream for an unforgettable autumn dessert.
